So I've been around for...10 years O_O OMG I'm so old! I started on Dev Art right around my senior year of high school. I'd just started getting into various fandoms and talking to other fans in forums. I stumbled upon a "post your fan art" thread on Animation Insider and after looking at some of the doodles there, I decided to try my hand. I always liked drawing, and when I was a kid I was really good. But around the time I was 12, someone told me that art wasn't a "viable career option" (I was also told that voice acting wasn't a viable career option either
), so I stopped drawing. When I saw the other people drawing the characters I thought "I could probably do that" After I posted some pics and the people there were so SWEET (omg I can't believe what a confidence boost they gave me when honestly the art was awful) someone suggested Deviant Art to me. The rest is history...and for the person that told me that art wasn't "a viable career": I currently illustrate T-shirts and I do graphic design for a corrugated display company, so take that
I might not be making millions, and it was a long road getting here (and I've still got a lot of learning to do), but I'm pretty damn happy.
I'm honestly really grateful to the people that saw my art in the early days and praised me instead of cutting me down, it changed the course of my life. I know when people are on the internet it can be easy to insult the person on the other side of the screen, but it's important to remember that the person on the other side is another human being with thoughts and dreams. If you've ever looked at my signature, it says "Even the smallest of words can be the ones that hurt you or save you" and it's true, sometimes the smallest compliment or nice gesture can change everything.
